Announcement: Nationally-Recognized Program for Tick-Borne Disease
now at Medical Center in Milford, CT

Healing Tick-Borne Infections with Precision & Innovation
A successful practice in functional and holistic medicine has launched a medical center in Milford, CT.  Wave Integrative Medical Center, at 326 West Main Street, Suite 108, is a leader in providing cutting-edge scientific healing solutions for complex chronic or inflammatory illnesses, which are often difficult to diagnose and treat with conventional medical approaches. Their flagship program for Tick-Borne Disease has inspired the need for this growth. The founder, neuroscientist Krista Hewlett Keegan, said,  “Our team is excited to bring a new approach to health and healing to patients stuck with a diagnosis of “chronic Lyme”- and never truly getting better." Says Cortney Katz, one Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner at Wave, "Our vision of healing patients with complex cases of Lyme borreliosis combines astute diagnosis, detection of related co-infections, curbing opportunistic infections and/or mold toxins, and a Functional Medicine restoration of the body toward healthy digestion/assimilation, detoxification, hormone balance, nutrition and sleep restoration.  Our new medical center now enhances this- with healing frequencies such as healing Pulsed-Electromagnetic Fields, and bio-stimulation with cold laser therapy. Wave also employs precision genomics to design tailor treatment for each patient.”

Functional Medicine recognizes that the body’s various functions – digestive, circulatory, nervous, and other bodily systems – are all part of one inter-connected system, and thus the goal of each treatment plan is not merely to treat infections, but to thoroughly heal the patient by restoring order and function to physiology.  In addition to being members of the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society, Wave's practitioners specialize in helping to reverse a wide variety of conditions, including:
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Adrenal Fatigue
  • Brain Fog
  • Chronic Low Back Pain
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Detoxification Support
  • Lyme Disease/Tick Borne Illnesses
  • Leaky Gut
  • Immune Compromise / CVID
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Thyroid Conditions
  • Women's Health
  • Persistent and Recurrent Infections
  • Mold Sickness/ Biotoxin Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Type II Diabetes
  • PANS/PANDAS & OCD
  • Sleep Problems

Wave's staff understands that every patient requires a customized treatment plan because every 'body' is different, or as Katz puts it, “Our difference is that we treat people, not disease labels. For example, how Wave would address irritable bowel is individualized in order to meet patient health needs- and highly effective in restoring balance to colon function. We believe a personalized approach is the difference as to why conventional care has not been able to validate one universal IBS treatment- there is no “one size fits all” approach to chronic inflammatory conditions. Additionally, our goal is to address root cause of inflammation - not just mask symptoms with pain or sleep meds."

FROM PATIENT TO PIONEER

Keegan’s journey to create a revolutionary approach to healing began when she became a patient in her own field of study.  She was well on her way to an MD/PhD with a focus on neuroplasticity and brain repair when her original research was featured on the cover of the international medical journal "Neuroscience" at age 23, a budding scientific star.  Then came a four-year-long progressive illness that did not easily fit a diagnostic “box”, leaving her seeking help from specialist after specialist. At the edge of despair she experienced first hand the difficulty that patients with multi-system, degenerative disease experience with conventional “siloed” medicine, which she feels is best designed to address symptoms of single body systems rather than heal the patient as a whole, and that it was unable to adequately treat difficult-to-diagnose cases such as her own. Thankfully healed through proper diagnosis and a prolonged treatment using the Functional Medicine diagnostic approach, she found a new calling: to merge this approach with her scientific background so that more patients could be healed, not just managed. With renewed health and determination, she went on to attend Duke's Leadership in Integrative Healthcare program.

Nearly incapacitated by a seemingly undiagnosable disorder, she understands how frustrating and discouraging these conditions are for patients.  Keegan says, "Wave Integrative Medical Center is the place where patients find healing solutions, often through second or third (...or eighth) opinions, not a lifetime of pharmaceuticals, sickness and tissue damage.  There are far too many cracks in the traditional medical system, and Wave is designed to close the cracks. We believe even complex chronic illness can be healed, and that is what we do here, combined with the cutting edge diagnostic capabilities of genomic science and the latest in medical technology.  Our goal is to become the future of healthcare in Fairfield County and to be a resource to the community in Milford and beyond. We will be having community events, such as Open Houses, group meditations and healthy living seminars, as the summer moves into fall.”  Cold Laser therapy, she believes, will be a significant part of the healing effort in Wave’s patient population.  “There are innovations here that defy logic; the cold laser in particular is extremely safe and seems to offer tremendous benefit to patients. It is something that people “stuck” in illness should explore.”

WHY WAVE?

The name "Wave" derives from the Center's assessment methodology, beginning with  a comprehensive consultation to examine the patient's medical history and, at times, their genomic profiles, revealing patterns - or "waves" - of symptoms that come and go, which in turn lead to a highly refined and precise diagnostic support, and to a treatment plan that heals the whole person, not just one symptom at a time.  It is also a reference to their advanced energy medicine treatments, such as cold laser therapy. This in turn leads

The Center focuses on four main Health Programs. The Advanced Pain Solutions Program combines personalized Functional Medicine assessments along with the latest in medical technology, including FDA-approved low level laser (“Cold Laser”)  therapy and Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field (PEMF) treatments to help the body heal from chronic pain. Hewlett Keegan's experience recovering from neurologic Lyme Disease inspired Wave's class-leading novel approaches to all Tick-Borne Infections (“not just Lyme”), which has treated patients from over 15 states, is offered by all practitioners who have trained with the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society. Parimal Patel, PA-C, a leader n this program, notes, "We commonly see people who say they 'were just never 100%' after they were diagnosed and treated for Lyme Disease. That should never be the case. Or, people looking for a second opinion on Lyme borreliosis because they know how bad testing can be- but they in fact are suffering other tick borne infections. It is extremely rewarding to help people find their health and energy again."  Cortney Katz PA-C, CFMP offers Functional Medicine treatment to restore physiologic well-being by reversing Type II Diabetes, enhancing hormone regulation, Women's Health, as well as Thyroid, Gastrointestinal and Adrenal health services.  As part of the Health & Wellness Program, Keegan believes Genomics is the next frontier for Precision Healthcare, and Wave is a pioneer, using it as a map of the biochemical roots of patients' challenges. She notes that the cost of sequencing a genome has fallen from 150 million dollars at the beginning of the Human Genome Project in 2003 to less than 1,000 dollars today, and that number continues falling. "Accessing this powerful information allows us to look at what makes each patient biochemically unique with extraordinary precision; more importantly, it leads to novel solutions to boost well-being. In fact, I think we’ve sufficiently seen that it may define the difference in a patient who ends up with neurologic Lyme Disease versus one who does not- and is powerful in guiding the plan for recovery."

Founded in 2015, Wave launched its medical center in Milford to be able to serve an even larger community, and to add new services.  As Wave’s treatments are often programmatic, the practice offers a variety of service packages and payment options including financing. Patients of the new office may receive significant limited time intake offers.  The office will also be holding an Open House on August 29 at 6:00 p.m., and all are welcome.
